HDPE Bucket Fotolia_33254966_S.jpgHDPE has a density above .940 which provides stiffness, toughness, stress-crack resistance and low temperature properties. Used for blow-molded containers, all types of injection molded parts, extruded pipe and profiles. Highly crystalline with a wax-like feel. Available in wide range of molecular weights.

Processing Considerations:

  • Residence Time: Residence time is 1.5 minutes or greater.
  • Back Pressure: Recommended PSI starts at 30 (300 plastic pressure) and can go to a maximum of 250 PSI (2500 plastic pressure) maximum.
  • Drying: Easily processed and does NOT require drying.
  • RPM: RPM can be 30 or greater.

Screw Design Based on:

  • High Compression Ratio
  • Medium Transition Length
  • Shallow Meter Channel Depth

Other Information:

  • Mixer: Low to high shear mixing screws can be used to process HDPE.
  • Barrier: A barrier screw design is recommended.
  • Custom Design: A custom designed barrier / mixing screw is recommended.
  • Recommended Valve: Valves can be 3-piece free-flow, 3-piece locking, 4-piece or ball check.
  • Screw & Barrel Material Recommendation: Standard materials can be used to manufacture the screw and barrel.
  • Similar to Resin: HDPE processes similar to PP (Polypropylene).
