Description:
This blend of resins is a popular go to material for many automotive and telecommunications plus appliances and electrical applications. One reason is it merges the best properties of both resins. Combining the heat resistance of polycarbonate with the easily processed ABS produces a part with the toughness similar to polycarbonate.
Processing Considerations:
- Residence Time: Residence time ranges from 2 to 4 minutes.
- Back Pressure: 150 PSI or 1500 Plastic Pressure or less.
- Drying: PC / ABS resin must be dried.
- RPM: RPM is typically 30 to 100.
Screw Design Based on:
- Low Compression Ratio
- Long Transition Length
- Deep Meter Channel Depth
Other Information:
- Mixer: If a mixing screw is used, it must be low-shear.
- Barrier: Barrier screws are not recommended.
- Custom Design: A custom designed screw is recommended over a general purpose design.
- Recommended Valve: Use a three-piece free-flow style valve.
- Screw & Barrel Material Recommendation: PC can be processed on components manufactured from standard alloys.
