Learn more about Polyvinyl Chloride – Rigid.
Description:
Rigid PVC is a relatively low cost resin with excellent weatherability, elecrical properties and chemical and impact resistance. It has a good surface appearance, UV color stability and is easily welded and painted.
Processing Considerations:
- Residence Time: Residence time is typically 2 to 4 minutes.
- Back Pressure: Back pressure runs 100 PSI (1000 plastic pressure) or less.
- Drying: PVC-R does not require drying but it may help surface finish.
- RPM: RPM runs 100 or less.
Screw Design Based on:
- Low Compression Ratio
- Long Transition Length
- Deep Meter Channel Depth
Other Information:
- Mixer: A low shear mixing element, like Reiloy Westland Corporation’s Eagle, is recommended.
- Barrier: Barrier screws are not recommended when processing PVC-R.
- Custom Design: PVC-R should not be processed with general purpose screws.
- Recommended Valve: A smear tip or 3 piece free flow is recommended.
- Screw & Barrel Material Recommendation: Creates corrosive environment resulting from HCL acid in the resin. Stainless steel or chrome plate for the screw and a premium bimetallic barrel is recommended.
Do not allow material to contact acetals. Purge with acrylic or ABS to clean.
Various additives and/or fillers can have an effect on a resin’s process behavior. For more detailed information, please contact Reiloy Westland Corporation.
