Thermoplastic PolyOlefin
Symbol: | TPO |
Crystallinity: | Semi-Crystalline |
Trade Names: | Dexflex, Eastar, Engage |
Description:
TPO is in the family of amorphour to semi-crystalline POE. This resin can come in low to high gloss. TPO can be diverse in stiffness, impact and expansion properties.
Processing Considerations:
- Residence Time: Residence time is typically 1.5 to 6 minutes.
- Back Pressure: Back pressure runs 150 PSI (1500 plastic pressure) or less.
- Drying: Drying depends upon residence time.
- RPM: RPM runs 25 or greater.
Screw Design Based on:
- Medium Compression Ratio
- Medium Transition Length
- Medium Meter Channel Depth
Other Information:
- Mixer: A mixer is recommended when adding color or processing with fillers.
- Barrier: The use of barrier screws is dependent upon grade of TPO and residence time.
- Custom Design: A custom design screw is recommended when processing TPO.
- Recommended Valve: A 3 piece free flow, 3 piece locking, 4 piece valve assembly or ball check can be used.
- Screw & Barrel Material Recommendation: Standard alloys can be used unless running reinforcements in resin.
- Similar to Resin: TPE processes similar to TPE, TPO, PP & PE.
Various additives and/or fillers can have an effect on a resin’s process behavior. For more detailed information, please contact Reiloy Westland Corporation.
